La Rábita is situated at the easternmost part of the Granada coast, Costa Tropical, by the A7, the main motorway along the Spanish coast. It has approximately 1500 inhabitants. The beach goes along the whole town, with plenty of space for everybody. There is an elementary school, pharmacy, 2 banks, fish monger, butcher, hotel, post office, several different shops, 3 grocery shops, a furniture shop and several restaurants, bars and cafes. The town church is from the 17th century and the castle from the 13th century. The buses to Almería and Málaga stop here. The mountains start just behind the coast line and stretch inwards, towards the Contraviesa and Alpujarra mountains.
